Level 1 Learning Objectives

  1. Effectively identifying and clearly exposing the root causes of systemic issues related to business outcomes, work outputs, culture, or process characteristics.

  2. Justifying organizational changes based on their impact on business outcomes while ensuring transparency, even in the most complex logic.

  3. Ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of group work on these activities and the group's effort in advocating the change.

Level 1 Curriculum

MODULE 1 (4h)

    • Understand systems thinking, its main rules, and principles.

    • Be able to use system diagramming, including CLD, effectively in individual and group work.

    • Understand the concept of system optimization goals.

MODULE 2 (4h)

    • Understand various organizational boundaries and levers.

    • Be able to evaluate the consistency among elements of organizational design.

    • Understand how to define optimization goals for organizations.

    • Be able to practically use optimization goals to ensure consistent and aligned design throughout the entire process of organizational evolution.

MODULE 3 (4h)

    • Understand and be able to differentiate between different system types.

    • Understand the dynamics of organizational ecosystems based on the Submarine Model of organizational systems thinking.

    • Be able to guide root-cause analysis for systemic problems in organizational ecosystems.

MODULE 4 (4h)

    • Understand the structure and logic behind the ORCA Canvas.

    • Be able to effectively and efficiently apply the ORCA Canvas, with and without CLD, individually and in a group, for organizational root-cause analysis and what-if modeling.

    • Be ablehow to navigate multiple disagreements and choose the change-advocating path with the highest benefit-cost ratio for the applied efforts.

MODULE 5 (4h)

    • Understand the structure and logic behind the advanced ORCA XL Canvas.

    • Be able to effectively and efficiently apply the ORCA XL Canvas, with and without CLD, individually and in a group, for organizational root-cause analysis and what-if modeling in the most complex cases.

MODULE OF PRACTICE (4h)

  • Although all preceding modules allocate 50% of the time to short practical tasks corresponding to particular topics, this module is fully devoted to hands-on experience in applying the learning from the entire program level.

The first five modules provide a gradual learning experience with 50/50 of theory and practice. The material of every subsequent module is based on your learning from the previous ones.

Professional Change Agent with SMART Effectiveness™

This certificate is not guaranteed! It is awarded only upon the successful completion of all steps in the theoretical and practical examination when you choose the optional Skill Validation service.

While mentorship sessions are included to support candidates, they may not be sufficient on their own, as your actual practice with real-life cases is the most critical factor.

Possession of the current level’s Graduate Certificate is a prerequisite.
